COME
AND SEE

The Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon host a "Come
and See" day on the first Sunday of each month for people
who would like to know more about religious life.
The day begins with morning prayer with the Sisters
at 8:30 a.m. Mass follows at 9 a.m. Coffee and rolls
are offered at 10 a.m. and lunch is provided at
11:30 a.m. At 12:30 p.m., the Sisters offer faith sharing
about prayer, scripture and religious life. The concluding
ritual and departure takes place at 1:30 p.m.
The Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon campus is located at 4440
SW 148th Avenue, Beaverton (at the corner of TV Highway and
Murray Boulevard).
Sister Catherine Hertel, who coordinates the Sisters’ vocational
program, says, “Many people drive by our campus and
have no idea of the many ministries that go on here. Nor
do they have a clear idea of what religious life is like.
This is an opportunity to discover who the Sisters are and
to learn about their ministries.”
She added, “We first offered ‘Come and See Days’ several
years ago. In the past, some people came just for the experience.
They appreciated the opportunity of getting to know the Sisters
and learning more about religious life. In fact, two of our
Sisters decided to join our community after having been to
a ‘Come and See Day.’ Other guests discovered
new ways to pray and to serve in their own communities.”
Sister Catherine Hertel notes that the sessions are open
to women and men. “While many women view these visits
as a chance to think about a possible vocation, we find that
men are also interested in learning about our community and
our ministries. We welcome all guests.”
There is no cost to participants. Interested persons should
reserve a place by contacting Sr.
Catherine Hertel by e-mail or by calling 503-644-9181.
