2004 -- Sister
Agnes Beitel

The daughter of German-Austrian parents who
migrated to America when they were young, Agnes Anna Beitel
was born in Stayton, Oregon. After attending school
at St. Boniface in Sublimity, she transferred to St. Mary
of the Valley High School, where she spent her junior and
senior years.
As Sister Agnes (formerly Sister Liliosa),
she continued her education at Mt. Angel Extension, receiving
a Bachelor of Science Degree in Music. She went on to study
at the University of Portland, Portland State University,
Immaculate Heart College Center in Los Angeles, Gonzaga University
and Marylhurst University. From 1937-1986, she was a music
teacher at St. Agatha’s, St. Andrew’s, Holy Cross
and Our Lady of Sorrows in Portland as well as St. Matthew
in Hillsboro, St. Cecilia’s in Beaverton, St. John’s
in Milwaukie and St. Mary’s in Stayton.
She also served
as Superior and Treasurer. In 1989-90, she participated in
the Credo program at Gonzaga University, ending her year
with a month’s tour of the Holy Land, Greece and Rome. |
