WISDOM OF THE SISTERS
Sister Ruth Etzel
What is your favorite Scripture passage and why?
It is difficult to give just one favorite passage, for I have many. This depends on my inner need at the moment.
When I want to ask Jesus for something, I go to Mark 1:40-45. The leper said to Jesus, “If you wish, you can make me clean.” Jesus said, “I do will it. Be made clean.” I hear Jesus answer me with the same love, understanding and compassion.
When I am not sure what to do, John 2:1-11 is a favorite. Mary says to me as she said to the waiter, “Do whatever He tells you.”
When I want something “now,” I use Mark 4:26-29: “. . .if a man were to scatter seed on the land and would sleep and rise night and day, the seed would sprout and grow, he knows not how.”
When there is need for an attitudinal adjustment, Philippians 2:1-5:“Have among yourselves the same attitude that is also yours in Christ Jesus.”
The letter to the Ephesians 3:14-21 is a real favorite and one of consolation: “to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, so that you may be filled with the fullness of God.”
God is very good to me, so a grateful heart finds expression in Ps. 116 “How can I make a return to the Lord for all the good He has done for me? . . . My vows to the Lord I will pay in the presence of all His people.” Ps. 27 and Ps 63 are two that fill the need of trust and praise.
