ACADEMICS
St. Mary of the Valley School philosophy reflects Catholic
values and guides the school in the development of the general
curriculum. The faculty and staff carry out the charism, mission,
and vision of the Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon.
All students study Religion, Art and Art Literacy, Health,
Language Arts, Mathematics, Music, Physical Education,
Science,
Computer, Library Skills and Social Studies.
Our curriculum
lays the
groundwork for the college-prep classes at Valley Catholic
School (7-12). Students are evaluated through report cards
and standardized tests taken in grades 3-6. Students' scores
are consistently
above the Archdiocesan and national averages.
The Music Department offers orchestra, choir, handbells,
and private music lessons. All fourth
grade students receive violin instruction.
Extracurricular sports are sponsored
by Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) and include basketball,
swimming, track and field, volleyball, and football.
Catholic
values are incorporated in curriculum and activities throughout
the day.
These include using
Christian values
in
our interactions with others, using Jesus as an example,
doing service projects which incorporate Catholic social
justice
values, starting each morning with prayer, praying throughout
the day, valuing the individual, and integrating spiritual
values through teachable moments and across the curriculum.
