Giving through a Life Insurance Policy

You can also use life insurance to fulfill your charitable
goals. You can either name the SSMO Foundation as a beneficiary
of your life insurance policy or you can transfer ownership
to the SSMO Foundation. The two gift scenarios offer different
advantages:
1. Name the SSMO Foundation as beneficiary of your life
insurance policy.
The benefits are:
- Easy to execute. Fill out a change of beneficiary form
with your insurance company.
- Offers flexibility because
you can change the beneficiary
at any time.
- Can name the SSMO Foundation as primary beneficiary
or a contingent
beneficiary (in case your primary beneficiary dies).
- Make
a wonderful, meaningful gift to the Sisters!
2. Transfer ownership of the life insurance policy to the
SSMO Foundation.
The benefits are:
- Receive a current income tax deduction for making this gift
(up to 50% of
your adjusted gross income).
- Reduce potential estate taxes.
- Make a wonderful, meaningful
gift to the Sisters!
- If premium payments still need to be
made, you can make your payments
directly to the SSMO Foundation and receive a tax deduction.
