On Oct. 4, 2014, the Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon and the City of Beaverton presented the fourth annual Soup’s On, a soup tasting event to address hunger in our region. The 2014 event benefited the Oregon Food Bank.
Soup’s On 2014 drew 375 guests – the highest attendance since the event began in 2011. It raised the most dollars of any Soup’s On event: nearly $16,500, exceeding the initial goal of $15,000.
2014 Judge’s Choice Awards
In 2014, a Judge’s Choice Award was presented based on the votes of judges from regional media outlets. Judges included Byron Beck, features editor, GoLocalPDX.com; Kjerstin Gabrielson, community engagement specialist, Oregonian Media Group; Jenny Hansson, anchor, KOIN-TV; Christina Lent, Managing Editor, Beaverton Valley Times and The Times; Cathy Marshall, reporter, KGW-TV; and Rhonda Shelby, morning meteorologist, KATU-TV.
The media judges gave honorable mention to the Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon for their Cream of Asparagus soup from the Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon. The Judge’s Choice Award went to Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue for their Fire Station Corn Chowder. KGW 8 visited the fire station and shared their winning recipe.
