Sr. Alexa Rebecca Weight, daughter of Erich and Kathi Weight, was born and raised in Olympia, WA as the eldest of three daughters. She moved to Oregon in 2013 to attend Western Oregon University in Monmouth, Oregon where she received a bachelors in History.
Sister Alexa Rebecca recalls her father telling her from a young age that she would be a Sister (comments that made her laugh at the time). When she turned 18 she began to feel the impulse to enter religious life. She became involved with Western Oregon University’s Catholic Campus Ministry leadership and was a youth group leader for the local parish, St. Patrick’s . As time passed, her desire to enter religious life grew stronger until a deeply powerful experience at Adoration impelled her to begin discerning religious life.
In 2017, she met the Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon, and it was not long before she moved as a candidate. She entered the novitiate in 2018 and will make her first vows this August. Her ministries thus far have been assistant sacristan, archive assistant, and parish secretary at St. Thomas More in Portland. She is currently working on her master’s in theology online through Newman University in Wichita, Kansas. Sr. Alexa Rebecca notes that God’s love moved her where she needed to go and is grateful for His loving guidance.
