On Friday, January 11, students from Valley Catholic early learning, elementary, middle, and high school gathered in the high school’s Valiants gym to honor police, firefighters and first responders at Valley Catholic’s annual Blue Mass.

Representatives from the Beaverton police and Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue were in attendance at the event.

“The Blue Mass is an annual tradition for our Valley Catholic school community to say thank you to our local first responders,” said Eric Berge, director of campus ministry and religion teacher.

These public servants were honored for their service and their role as peacemakers in the community. Prayers of thanksgiving and protection were offered up for those serving in these important roles.

After Mass, students gave the police, firefighters and first responders a standing ovation as they came to the center of the gym. Students from all schools gave artwork and thank you cards to the guests.

After the event, Beaverton police captain Ronda Groshong said, “Overwhelming. That is how I would describe today’s Mass. It warms the heart.”
