Sister Geraldine Brady

In 2018, Sister Geraldine Brady will celebrate 60 years of religious life.

Sister Geraldine was born to James F. Brady and Sylvia R. Friberg at St. Vincent’s Hospital on February 8, 1939. She grew up in Portland, Oregon, where she attended first through fifth grades at St. Agatha School in the Sellwood District. When the family moved to Indianapolis, Indiana, Sister Geraldine attended sixth and seventh grades at St. Joan of Arc School.

The family then returned to Portland, and Sister Geraldine returned to St. Agatha School. After graduating from St. Agatha, she attended St. Mary’s Academy.

After her high school graduation in June 1957, Sister Geraldine entered the Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon Community in September.

She taught in schools across Oregon and Washington including St. Mary in Spokane, Our Lady of Guadalupe in Seattle, Christ the King in Milwaukie, and St. Agatha, Holy Cross and St. Andrew in Portland.

Her parish ministry included service at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Lakeview, Oregon. Serving in the Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon Motherhouse, she was head of laundry and worked in the library.

Her hobbies have included writing poetry and collecting stamps.
